Once again, our Okeeheelee Warriors had a terrific season.
The baseball team finished the regular season 9-0 as they were on their way to playoffs.
In game 1 of the playoffs on Oct. 23, the Warriors played Wellington Landings. Daniel Hernandez pitched a great game with 12 strike-outs and only one run scored off him, according to coach Chris Bischoff. The Warriors won that game 3-1.
Last year, the Warriors played Duncan and lost to them in the semi-finals. Determined this year, Bischoff was ready to play Duncan Middle again on Oct. 25th. Despite lacking a pitching game, the Warriors did not give up. In the last inning, Duncan was up 3-1 with one out. Gabriel Mendez hit a ball that was caught by the second baseman, who then threw Will Anglin out at first for a double play.
Next year, Bischoff said, “we lose 8 eighth-graders.”
So he calls next year the rebuilding season. Daniel Hernandez, who hit three home runs throughout the season, was Bischoff’s MVP.
“Practice like you’re playing the game,” Bischoff said. “Play hard and do your best because baseball is a game of failure, and even the best get out 7 out of 10 times.”
