Girls volleyball team meets Don Estridge in playoffs http://www.okeeheelee.org/news/girls-volleyball-team-makes-playofs/ Sun, 01 Feb 2015 18:08:14 +0000 http://www.okeeheelee.org/news/?p=2366 By Andrea Vazquez The girls volleyball team enjoyed a winning season (6-2) that took them into the playoffs. At a playoffs match-up against Don Estridge Middle School’s Dragons on Jan. 8, it was the best of three games. It only went two:  Both games went in favor of the Dragons — 23-18 in the first game, and 25-12 in the second. “This volleyball season was a challenge,” coach Liza Asch said. “We had great players, great skill, but we couldn’t put it together. “It turned out to be successful because  we earned second place and got into the playoffs, but we could have done better. Having four girls playing on a club team together also should have been a tremendous help.” She says the team will have to adapt to losing its top three players as they are in eighth grade. “Jaylene Rodriguez is a talented and a smart setter who always seemed to know where Sofia Manning was,” Asch said. Sofia plays great all over the court, so don’t count her out based on her size. Taysha Cotto is silent but deadly when it comes to her volleyball game.” Sofia Manning said it was a good season. “It was a lot of competition because all the eighth-graders (from the year before) left. I was captain with two other girls. It was a big job to move the new girls around and get them to play the game.”
