Winter Diagnostics

FSAWinter Diagnostics will take place from Jan 12 – Feb 6.

All exams are computer based with the exception of 6th & 7th Grade Writing and 8th Grade Science.

Any student who misses any portion of the diagnostic will attend make-up testing which will take place throughout the month of January and the first week of February.

Congressman Ted Deutch

Congress Ted DeutchThe social studies department at Okeeheelee Middle School brought US Congressman Ted Deutch to speak to all seventh grade students on October 29. Mr. Deutch began the presentation to our seventh graders, all of whom are enrolled in Civics, with the “School House Rock” classic “I’m Just a Bill.”

The assembly was next treated to a simulation where the students had an opportunity to be a “member of the US House of Representatives” and propose legislation.  After coming up with quite a few ideas for bills (proposed laws) the Congressman chose eight students to debate the bills. Lastly, the students voted which bill would be the best use of the 1 billion dollars they were working on. The Warriors of Okeeheelee chose a bill that would invest the money in cancer research, an issue that is close to the heart of many Warriors.

We look forward to having more elected officials visit in the future so that the students can have a chance to take part in authentic learning experiences.

Spirit Week November 18 – 21

Spirit WeekSGA and NJHS are co-sponsoring this year’s Spirit Week. Tickets will be sold during lunches and right after school in Mrs. Di Bisceglie’s classroom (Room 173) or in Mrs. Leyendecker-Estupinan’s classroom (Room 3-102).

Tickets must be purchased in advance or before first bell rings each day. Tickets will be on sale in the Quad and Cafeteria. Tickets are $1 per day. Students will receive a ticket with the student’s name and Spirit Day information. If the student loses ticket then they either have to buy another one or not dress that day.
